Agree the government have not been doing a great job lately. Think 3 straight terms is quite enough for any one party and no matter how good the government when first elected, the country will always feel like a change after 10-15 years. Anyway to answer your (not so serious) question...

Because England is part of the United Kingdom, and the UK is a parliamentary monarchy and representative democracy. The constitution requires the queen or king reign but not rule.

Oh and someone asked if the royals could ever be elected. The answer is no. Only commoners can be elected or even cast a vote - it's why when the majority Conservative Party selected Lord Home as their leader in the 1960s, and the queen made him prime minister, he had to give up his title so he could stand for election to the house of commons (he was knighted as consolation, becoming Sir Alec Douglas Home)

First of all forgive me to correct your question, which should be
"Why can‘t the Royal Family rule the United Kingdom of Great
Britain" which includes Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The answer is that we no longer are under a Monarchy, we
have a Parliamentary Government. So it is the Parliament that
rules the country.

But it does look as if The Scottish National Party are attempting to break away, and Blair, Brown are doing their utmost to prevent this from happening. This final note is only to inform you, since the British Newspapers are giving this subject quite a lot of coverage.

This isn't the middle ages. We have become civilized, Democratic society.
Also the royal family wouldn't know where to start & if you think about it the government is doing a good job. We have free health care. Benefits for when times are hard e.t.c.
Now i know that they could do a better job, But take into account how complicated every aspect of running a country is e.g. Our expectation's, The logistical knightmare it must be e.t.c.
and government's is a relatively new thing (With the complexities of Modern times).
I am sure they will get better with time.

Because Jim is a lazy get? (Sorry - it was too hard to resist!)

In all seriousness the Government rule Britian so you would need to lose Scotland (half way there by the sounds of it), Northern Ireland and Wales before anyone could take over England.

Oh and we are a democratic society so put the Royals in charge and bang goes the vote. Plus I don't think the Queen wants that responsibility

Titled Royals don't have a surname, in spite of the shown fact that, the Queen is a member of the abode of Windsor, it become a popularity substitute from the abode of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha interior the wake of Anti-German feeling for the time of international conflict I. the abode call got here from the Husband of Queen Victoria (who become the final monarch of the abode of Hanover). Charles had indicated while he will become King that the abode call would be Mountbatten-Windsor as Prince Philips call while he grew to become a naturalised British Citizen become Mountbatten (the Anglicized call of Battenburg)

I assume you are English. do you want a monarchy or elected government? I am American and don't like the idea of a ruling party much less a ruling family. Really, you would want that?

Cause the family gave the right to the Parliament. The Family is only a figure head, per se. I'm not sure if they can be voted back in...that would be interesting.

Because absolute power corrupts absolutely. You cannot entrust the running of an entire nation to a single family. Look what happeneded in Iraq, Rumania, Albania, etc
