bushmeat! One reason is, that chimp meat is considered a delicacy in african cultures. It get's high prices on the market.

Another reason is humans invading the forest. Buildind roads for logging trees. The deforestation leads to loss of viable area for chimps. And when the roads are built, people begin to settle. Thus invading the forest even more.

Interestingly, your question was pointed at the common chimp. The Bonobo is much more endangered as the common chimp.

most primate are listed in yellow and red list as endanger...
they play important roles so is consider more important by human, thus...

btw the term "common" for animal doent mean that they are common(big populatin)...this term is generally used when there is one more common or significant/well-documented animal closely related to other similar spesces
