around 93 million miles but what is more interesting is how the moon is just the correct distance away to fully cover the sun during an eclipse!
i read some where though that this wont last forever though as the moon is moving away from the earth every year and so will not cover the suns disc during an eclipse in the future.

Incidentally, to clarify another answer, the Moon recedes from the Earth about 1 - 2 cm per year. Solar eclipses should be pretty cool for a while.
