I can't even figure out simple math problems because by the time I move on to the 2nd or 3rd num I forget the first. I can't retain the info long enough to process it.

You should see a doctor as soon as possible for a medical evaluation.
You need to eliminate the possibility of physical problems first, such as chemical imbalances, tumours on the brain, etc.
Have you been in an automobile accident lately in which you suffered whiplash? Have you suffered concussion of any kind from a fall or impact?
Brain stem injuries can be a cause of this type of memory loss.
There is also such a thing as early onset Alzheimers disease which affects short term memory, but it is not really common.
You really do need to be evaluated medically.
Does forgetfulness run in your family?
Other than that, stress might be getting you. Better evaluate your lifestyle, etc. and make some changes AFTER you see the doctor.

Your memory, much like your muscles, will become "weaker" without use. On the flipside tho, this also means that it can be made stronger with practise. Try to remember sequences of numbers, and say them back to yourself. Memorise number plates on the drive to work. Just so long as you stick at it, even tho it might be hard at first, you're memory will improve. Stress is also a major cause of short term memory problems, as is depression, so if these are problems, address them first. There are also alot of self help improve your memory books and courses, but you might be better off making up your own excercises and doing them..

Al, it could all be attributed to stress. It could be attributed to a lack of sleep. It could also be physical health problem. The only way to discover what the source of your problem is, see your doctor.

it might be stress.
and for some of the things you mentinoed, they aren't that important or that interesting. so you are more likely to lose focus
writing it down helps. try and reduce your stress. its not a big deal. many people have bad memories and survive
