Yes, a plastic container 12" deep and 12" x 24" wide and long, with a lid, such as Rubbermaid will work fine. Drill some holes (1/4 " or smaller) for ventilation and put a tray underneath to catch any seepage. If worms are escaping, line the bin with plastic window screen material to cover the holes.
Placer-Nevada County California Master Composters have an excellent on-line composlting course. Chp 4 is on vermicomposting. This Spring is a little soon to have much compost. About 6--12 months is a more reasonable expectation.
"Worms Eat My Garbage" is the definitive book on this topic. Good luck.

Sure it'll work, and if you're keeping it outside you might drill a couple drain holes in both the top and bottom. Our worm critters need moisture too, but also need ways for it to drain off.
The LID suggestion is valid if you don't do air holes.
I have to tell you though. You might wanna get yourself a pet rabbit. There is no better natural fertilizer on the planet than rabbit waste, and it doesn't get so smelly as others. A small cage, a well fed Bunny, not only eats scraps from salad prep but certainly processed rabbit food too.
The soil under the cage can be turned often, even hosed down, and I promise you will have all the worms you want. Fat, healthy, and maybe offer you another hobby. Smile. At the very least they help the soil and you can sell them to all the "fishermans" in the nighborhood. :)

Yes, but you'll need to have air and drain holes drilled into the bottom. This will allow air to reach the buried worms and excess moisture to escape the litter that is used in the box.. Worms do not like standing water, only slight moisture is needed..Actually a wooden box works very well and you can construct it to your own measurements and requirements. Here is a link, that I think is helpful in constructing such a box... I had 3 worm boxes myself a few year back and used the worms for fishing and also sent some to supply a friend in Florida periodically.. Here is the link.. Good luck!

Whats the point of Football, soccer, and baseball. Sports are sports. People play and watch them for entertainment. Some do them to stay in shape. Some pepole are good enough to make a career out of them. What does MMA have to do with karate, kickboxing, and boxing? Whats the point of MMA? People could say they see the same thing at a bar! MMA is MMA. People like what they like.
