I'm all for capital punishment, I really don't care what method. If someone is tried for his or her crime and is found guilty, especially of some heinous crime, why should they be allowed to live out the rest of their lives, when they didn't give a hoot about the lives that they took?? And do you realize how much it costs to keep those prisoners, especially the ones on death row?? Those are my tax dollars that could be used for a greater good...

As an reporter you start out being against capital punishment and slowly change to drawing and quartering is too good for some.

The problem is that when we do the background, the criminal is more than often a "system kid" and the system is neither gentle nor kind to children. Nothing has changed since Charles Dickens (let the complaints begin). And sometimes you think that society creates it's own monsters.

But there are people who have had good upbringings who turn into monsters and other who have had horriffic upbringings and never commit a crime.

There is something as evil and some people are just plain evil. So yes, I believe in capital punishment. Lethal injection.

Then there are crimes of passion where the monster is the victim of the murder and the murderer feels he or she has to kill the monster. The murderer is abused physically and sexually and they suddenly snap driven mad in less than second, driven beyond anything anybody should have to endure they pick up a knife, baseball bat or gun and once they start hitting back they can't stop. The jury asks, why are there so many wounds or why did they empty the whole gun into the victim was it for protection or just plain homicide? It's a good question. So no, I don't believe in capital punishment.

i am for it in certain cases because i think that it is more humane than locking people up for the rest of their lives, and keeps society safe from repeat killers and robbers.
If it is clear that there will be no benefit from any attempts to reform the person, it is probably better to execute them. That way they wont have to suffer in prison, and the families of victims, and the rest of the community in the region can sleep better at night.

crucifixion, hanging, firing squad, electric chair, gas chamber all seem like cruel methods to me.
However, lethal injection makes the convict unconcious before another injection (lethal) is given.
If that technology is not available for whatever reason, I have heard that the guillotine is actually a quick and reliable method

I do not support the death penalty as a form of punishment, only as a method to keep innocent people safe, as an alternative to other punishments, and when reform seems futile

I wish the question were phrased as- if you know the hard facts about capital punsihment, do you support it.

Here are some of the hard facts-

It is not a deterrent- states with the death penalty have higher homicide rates than states that do not. People who commit murder do not think they will be caught, let alone punished, that is, if they think at all.

The death penalty costs much more than life sentences. A great deal of the extra cost comes before conviction. There is an unmet need for more well funded victims’ assistance programs. (In my opinion, that is where we should spend the extra money.)

Life without parole is on the books in more and more states. It means what it says. (It is no picnic to be locked up in a tiny cell for 23 of 24 hours a day.)

Over 120 people have been released from death row with evidence of their innocence. In the overwhelming number of these cases, the evidence was not DNA. DNA is not a miracle cure for wrongful convictions. The exonerees had spent many years on death row before being found innocent. Speeding up the process would guarantee the execution of an innocent person. It is human nature to make mistakes.

Death sentences can be very hard on victims’ families. The process takes a long time and they are forced to relive their ordeal over and over again, in courts and in the media. Some murder victims’ family members have said that although they support the death penalty in theory, they do not want to see it in the case of their murdered loved one because of how the process affects families like theirs. Life without parole is swift and sure and rarely results in appeals.

Last of all, opposing the death penalty does not mean you excuse or coddle criminals who commit brutal and depraved acts. They must be punished severely. But we need to use common sense based on the facts, not to focus on revenge which accomplishes nothing.

I'm in favor of it as long as all legal avanues have been gone thru to make darn sure they are taking the life of the correct person. Not sure that is entirely possible. Lethal injection is probably the most humane way of doing it and it should be done humanely otherwise we are no better than the criminals that are sentenced to death.

You sound like a ghoul!!
but I don't agree with it because it is cruel & no one has the right to kill another human like that no matter what the crime
If they are real violent murderers,
They should be kept in jail for life & made to work Like making cloths or something that will help society etc & they should never get out
but don't have it like a hotel for them either
but they can watch certain Tv shows & have some good things in their life but never ever let them have the NET !!
& don't let them rule the roost in there neither
have them all under control
I think they kill them because they haven't got enough jails
& also a lot of hoons are kept out of jail for the same reasons
not enough jails

Bullet to the back of the head and yes I am in favour of it.

Why? Because nothing seems to have serious consequences anymore. If you take a life, yours should be taken from you.

But then, the moral dilemma... does that not make the person who pushes the button/ pulls the trigger a killer??

I have seen too many horrible ways in which people kill their victims - and the emotional anguish of the family NEVER stops.

I am for it if a person commits hideous crimes against humanity. Like bombings, rape, murders, pedophiles, that are deplorable to society. I would use lethal injection. Osama Bin Laden should be shot in the head, put in a remote control plane and be smashed in the moutain. He is chickencrap to come out of the caves. Cause he knows he is guilty. That is why he is hiding.
However for the common criminal, that does theft over/under, drug trafficking, assaults, etc..should be put in prison then be put on probation minimum 2 years. They should be banned from weapons if they committed armed robberies, (like my ex)...however, my ex used to repeat this over and over again. He only does the counseling because courts told him to. Not for himself to better himself.

Someone who commits the crime of first degree murder should also be put to death. Not for revenge, not for punishment but for justice.

Most of the above would fine.

If you are in favor of abortion, why?
How should it be done. Hanger, vacuum, forceps.

I'm not for it or against it. I just think that there are worse things in life than death, but those would be considered "cruel and unusual punishment"...
