Firstly, no one should have to do anything for someone else unless they really want to... so if your guy won't stop drinking for you then that means he doesn't want to and you shouldn't expect him to.

Next, you should always love a person the way they are but that doesn't mean hanging around if the situation doesn't suit you.

So since it obviously bothers you and lets face it a person with a drinking problem (if its a problem... you don't say whether you just want a teetotaller or if he is a drunkard) but either way if his drining bothers you then you should get the hell out of it.

And love him as a friend.

In short, both parties need to have their needs met.

Get out of it. Why would you want to date a guy that has a problem drinking. The problem is that girls think that guys will change after they settle down, and they never do. And the other problem is that guys think girls won't change after they settle down, and they always do. Dump the guy, find a good local church, accept the gift of salvation that God has given you, and get involved in a small group. Then, and only then, look for that right guy.

No, alcoholism is his problem; co-dependency is yours. If it is something you can live with, stay in the relationship, otherwise drop him because it won't get any better. He will not stop drinking for you; the decision has to be that he will stop drinking for himself, and that is unlikely to happen.

If you really love him you will stand by him and get him help.... It is a sad sickness and he can't help it. It is not his fault but with your love and support you can make things better. Now is the right time though I stood by my husband(boyfriend at the time)and it took till he had liver failure to open his eyes now if he even has a drop it will kill him.He has not drank since last Jan 15...Hand in there.

Dont bank on changing anyone for love..it just doesnt happen...accept or move on, but that (drinking) is a very large amount of baggage.

Get rid of him. Life's too short to spend it with someone with a problem like that at such a young age. If he has a problem NOW, he'll have one later.

if you love him, you love him, but if you want to stay together for a long time you should keep trying to solve it. if you just sit there and let him destroy himself, nothing will end well.
