I have a lot of theories about baseball in general and I have one that applies to the Cubs this year. I think they spent way too much money on ok players (including Soriano). Ted Lilly gets 10 million a year, are you kidding me? His career record is under .500.

Also, I can name a bunch of players in recent years who never fulfill giant contracts and it ends up hurting the team more that it does helping. Look at the season Carl Pavano had in 2003. He had an amazing year, but it was just that year. How has he done since? Or Sexson and Beltre when he signed with the Mariners? I just think when teams overspend, it ends up biting them in the butt.

I don't think it's the fact of having the Cubs players produce that's the question. They may all have averages in the .290s and hit 30 home runs. It's when they hit and if they can play as a cohesive unit and score with men on base and hit the 2-run, 3-run homers. If they can do that, they should be just fine and maybe make the playoffs.

they have a decent chance...but they're gonna have to win the division...and the only team i think can stand in their way from winning that division is Houston. despite signing Soriano and Lilly (to some degree), i wouldn't call their acquisition of Marquis a steal...it'll probably help St. Louis more than Chicago. They signed DeRosa too, right? not a good pickup by any means, and they'll regret it later on...

BUT...i don't see St. Louis finishing much better than they did in 2006 and Houston figures to only get better offensively with the signing of Carlos Lee, at least in the short term anyway, before he becomes the Panamanian equivalent of the blueberry girl from Willy Wonky and the Chocolate Factory. Mets are still i think a lock for the East (the Phillies and Marlins and maybe Braves should compete for the wild-card). the West is pretty much wide-open, despite the signing of Zito in San Fran. so unless the Cubbies can clinch the Central, they're going to have to fend off several teams for the Wild-Card, which will be tough. you might recall the log jam we had in the NL for the Wild-Card this past season. expect that again this season...and if that's the case, don't expect them to make it in the playoffs...

Te Cubs have a very good chance this year, they have improved in everything on paper. They just need to play as a team.

We made some good moves in the offseason and getting rid of Dusty was a great move!!!!!! I say they get a wildcard but in a few years they will be on top. It's going to take a year or 2 to get everyone on the same page.

Really Doubt it and this is no time talk about baseball when the Bears are going to the Super Bowl, bother me after St. Patricks Day, and will talk about how seriously we should take the CUBBIES.

I'd give them about an 80% due to all the money that they have spent on high profile players.
