passing illinois auto emissions?

i have a 79 trans am with a 461 stroked and bored engine. 3in dual exhaust, mufflers, NO catalytic converters and is pushing around 400HP......my question is how can i make it so it passes Illinois emissions? i hate having AV plates on it an not being able to take it places without worrying about cops. my friend has told me that the car will never pass even if i put catalytic converters on it, what else would i have to do that wouldnt kill the the HP or my wallet??? thank you!!!

I don't know how it is in Illinois, but her where I am, My truck is expempt from emmisions laws because it was built before the laws were put into affect. where I am, any vehicle 1990 and newer must past to be alloud on the roads, My truck was made in april of '89, therfore it does not meet the laws and is expempt from the tests. check you're local laws, and talk to a local testing facility about it, they will have all the information on this.

BEing your car is a 79 passing the emission is small. Your car is old and was made befor the emission law was in evvect. Call the emission place and ask what is required for your car.
In 1979 catalystic converters were not even invented yet and the law will in your case grandfathered so you dont even have to meet standardes then.

I knew a guy that had a way of detatching the pipes (an easy way) then attaching a pipe with a converter and a muffler, then passed. then when done put the other pipes back on.

listen buy good grade Gas prior to the test, change you oil & filter as well. if its gonna pass, that will help the most think thongs to!

Find someone who will pass it for you using another car?

only way is put cat convertor temporary then remove after test guaranteed it will pass
