I have combonation skin... my forehead and sides of my nose get very oily throughout the day, but my chin and upper lip are extremely dry and flaky. I also have skin that is VERY prone to breakouts, but I need something effective that will clear up my skin but NOT dry it out. Does proactive really work for my skin type and how much does it cost?

Alot of people have good luck with it, my son didnt, I got him a acne wash by Neutagena in a pump bottle--it foams, that worked really well for him. Try something that has salicylic acid in it as it really treats acne and prevents future outbreaks. Good luck! Try a moisturizer for oily skin, it wont clog pores but will give your skin the help it needs. NEVER us anything with oils, it will really wreck your acne prone skin. Your local walmart of drug store will have a few to choose from!

hey! I had the same type of skin. Sounds like you are younger, possibly in high school or college?
Have you seen a dermatologist or doctor yet? This will save you time trying out different products with their professional help. Check your insurance and see if you can make an appt with one. If not, check with your doctor to see if you can get a prescription for accutane. If you are younger than 18, you will have to get a parent/guardian to go with you.
Accutane is amazing, after I tried everything, this was the ONLY thing that worked. It is tedious and you have to take a pill twice a day for 5 months, but trust me, your skin will be perfect afterwards! No breakouts, no shine, just "normal" skin. The doctor will take a tiny pin prick every month for a blood sample to test your levels, to make sure the medicine is doing it's job, and a urine sample. (It is also deadly to a fetus, so you can't be trying to get pregnant... )
When you make the doctor appt make sure the doctor you are seeing can prescribe accutane. Only certain doctors are allowed, and they have to be registered with accutane. So ask when you are making the appt.
Good luck!! It was the best thing I ever did. You are on the right track!

I've tried everything too, including Murad, ProActiv etc and no it did not work for me. It agitated my skin and made it red. The only good part of it was the mask which is semi-good for spots but to be honest it works the same as drug store zinc oxide. If you want to save money a facial exfoliation with lotion would do about the same job. It might work for you though I don't know. Many people swear by it but for me it didn't. Another suggestion is talking to your doctor/dermatologist about a medicated cream or a prescription med. Those tend to work the best.

My step daughter uses ProActive and loves it. However, I've noticed that her skin isn't that clear. I've heard it is expensive - but she doesn't buy it herself since she is 16. At 39, I still break out like crazy if I don't use my skin care system. I have combination skin and am allergic to benzoyl peroxide which is the main ingredient in ProActive. I use the Murad Acne System instead. It works great. You can get a starter kit for around $60.

well i have been using proactiv for 5 months and i have really noticed the differance (i kind of have the same problem), they say it works for all skin types, and i agree. it worked for me and it takes away the acne and acne scares so does the oilyness and the dry, for a box of 2 months it will cost u about $50 or so,( i get that one), for a box of 1 month it will cost u $40, the one for 1 month is a little smaller than the other one, u can get it by calling, or going 2 proactiv.com, good luck and i hope this info works for u.

Yes it is works. I used it before. Only a set is enough for me and clear my skin. It costs S$78-80 a set depending on stores. Watsons and Guardian stores have this. You can check it out!

A set: 1) Cleanser
2) Toner
3) Moisturiser
4) Free Face Mask

It won't dry ur skin because of they've moisturiser.

I have the same skin type. I tried Proactive for awhile, but I didn't find it very effective. I ended up going to a dermatologist who perscribed medicine for me. I would recommend this because they're professional and they can perscribe medicines that are tailored to the exact skin type you have.

Good luck!
