All babies are cute in their own Sharpei way. I think the smiling and cooing part is instinctual.

Yes I have seen an ugly baby. And yes, I did coo and smile at it.

I love ugly babies! They are so cute because they are so ugly looking and don't know it and don't care. They are so sweet. So yes I do smile and coo at them anyway!

Everyone has a different idea of what beautiful is, as well as the term "ugly". If you're the type to judge specifically on the physical appearance of someone, even a baby then you need a lot of soul searching to do. Personally, I love all baby's. I've seen so many, and I've held a lot. Some with bigger lips, bigger cheeks, smaller eyes, effects of FAS, a lot of different physical appearances but why should they be labeled as "ugly" just because you think so?
No one has control over what they look like, especially baby's. When you're older and people think of you as "ugly" it's easier to disguise yourself.
Grow up and stop judging the appearance of baby's.

I saw a cute baby, but she was VERY obese.... Like being seriously overfed formulas... a beach ball baby. Her caregiver was a little on the stout side as well...
I smiled at her, but glanced away, I felt bad.

Oh gosh YES, but really, even ugly babies are cute!
I just pray they outgrow the ugly!
(and they usually do, but what's sad is really cute babies and kids who grow up ugly! now, that's a conundrum!)

thanks for the laugh natalie, but no i havent really seen an ugly baby but i was a pretty nasty looking one, ive seen ugly toddlers but no ugly babies

yes, and i don't say "you have a cute baby", I just find one positive thing about him/her and talk about that, like " i love how he's so quiet" or "her hair is so soft".
