For a week, I had a houseguest who smoked (I didn't mind), but now the house smells not exactly smoky, but "stale". Will the smell of smoke dissipate on its own after a time?

if your furnace was on, change your air fielder , go with a new charcoal fielder if possible. Then you have allot of cleaning and airing out

I had a neighbor take care of my dogs while I was on a business trip. I came home early to discover he had been smoking in my house while watching my TV. That was more than four years ago and I swear I can still smell cigarette smoke.

You will become accustom to it and not notice it as much, but a non-smoker who isn't in your house often, will notice it for a long time. A lot depends on the type of coverings you have in your house. It will help some if the individual used a particular chair, if you can set it outside on your deck or balcony for about a week. I know there is a product designed just for this purpose, but do not remember what it was. Sorry.

Try wiping down the walls with a vinegar/water solution. The tar in cigarettes causes the smoke to stick to the walls.

I'm a smoker, but I smoke outside for just that reason. Yuck! I don't want my HOUSE smelling like that!

buy an odour eliminator, not an air freshner, they just cover up smells
