Put an aspirin in them. For some reason that really makes them last.

cut the stem IN water which causes the flower to effectively take a big drink. If they get a little tired looking, repeat the process and replace the water in the vase with fresh water. I have been told that warm water is the best.

i just learnt this today off of the discovery channel. they say cut the stem at 30 to 45 degrees couple of inches. the water should be warm and put a drop of bleach in the water to prevent the plants stem to cause abacteria that will prevent the plant from drinking. change the water every three days.

You can use an aspirn, but but what is so unique is how you cut the stem which allows it to drink .
If you trim the stem straight accross it will do no good.
It has to be slice at an angle so that more stem is hsopiwing to drink. This way your Rose will last longer. I usually slice my stems on the bottom of the stem and then one inch up from the bottom slice it again and leave the spur.

THIS is the correct answer. Cut the stems off at an angle while they are submerged in water. THEN dip the bottom two or three inches of stem in VERY hot water for a few seconds. NOT boiling. THEN put them in the vase water.
Surprisingly, they will last a LOT longer. The reason is that the hot water forces out any AIR from the cut...and they therefore start sucking up WATER right away instead of being 'air locked'.

You have to cut the stem slanted over running cold water and put an aspirin in the water when you put them in the vase - whenever you water the flower - always put the aspirin in fresh water and pour out the old!@~

fill up your sink with cold water and cut the stem vertically about half an inch under water then put the roses in a vase with a mixture of 50% water 50% sprite or 7up and 2 teaspoons of sugar be sure you put the rose in the vase as fast as you can to prevent it from drying out and mist it with the above mixture every few hours of so and they should last much longer

Cut the stems diagonally as this allows them to take up more water and like the guy earlier said, do it under a tap.

my grandmom swore by that one..into the water put an aspirin (aspirin only) dont change the water 2 days, then refill fresh and another aspirin, above all keep the roses outside at night (talking about clement weather) instead of cutting the stems, split them about as high as your little finger..they absorb more water that way..good luck roses are food for the soul...

Well.... they are going to wilt "prematurely" anyway since they have been cut.... but you can slow it down.

Martha Stewart says to fill a sink with cool (not cold) water and to cut the stems about an inch below a joint while underwater (the stems, not you). Repeat every couple of days.

(I believe everything Martha Stewart says. It's safer that way.)
