In Ottawa, people are not allowed to smoke inside in public places. Do you think this is stupid?
People in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada may not smoke in inside places in public, restaurants, etc. It is the law. What is your opinion?

I love that people can't smoke in places here in L.A.

I find smokers to be SO RUDE. For example, in the CAR. THEY choose to smoke, yet HOLD IT OUT THE WINDOW, so all the smoke blows at me, and then flick their ashes on to my car. Then ,usually, they THROW THE LIT BUTT OUT THE WINDOW. Or on the ground, if they are walking outside.

Smoking is ******* GROSS. I shouldn't have to breathe that **** b/c you need your fix. I'm surprised how many young people start smoking when everyone knows how bad it is....old people are addicted, but why start?

Its not just Ottawa its all of Ontario.
I don't think its such a big deal. How many times do you go into a restaurant or something and people are smoking. Not everyone in this whole world smokes. And its nice to be in a smoke free area. You can breath the difference from a smoking room from a non smoking room.

If you really want something to think about, think about this.
There's a city in Ontario where a hospital has signs everywhere saying no smoking. They do not allow smoking in their parking lot or anywhere near the hospital. Workers and patients have to smoke outside on the side walk. The reason why they did this was to see if it will reduce the amount of people coming in with lung cancer and stuff.

Ontario did the no smoking law for a reason and we just have to wait and see how it turns out.

Why would this be stupid?
I smoke I do not smoke in homes, restaurants, anywhere a child may be. I do not smoke in my own house because my grand daughter may visit next Sunday. I do not want her to be in a place that smells like an ashtray. My grand daughter is not permitted in my garage.

If I am in a smokers home, I will not smoke in their house, even if they are smoking. I will go outside or in the garage. The only places smokers should smoke. I do not believe this is a habit that should be performed in a civilized place.

I believe it is stupid because we have laws that covers common courtesy. Legislatures should not legislate where it is legal to perform legal activities. They should make it illegal to smoke or make it legal to smoke. Not where you can smoke.

I know why you believe this is bad, but the opposite is equally bad. Why should smokers get the privilege of forcing their odors on those of us who do not smoke?

I have been in many places where a smokers area was bumped right up to non smoker areas and the smell was everywhere and it does make it bad for those of us with children and or bad allergies.

Now I will offer you one caveat. If a establishment wants to cater to smokers only then I think that should be allowed and we non smokers should not go to those places.

It's the law in Scotland too and it's great. Finally, non-smokers can go to a bar, nightclub, restuarant, etc and not worry about passive smoking, smoke contaminating their food and lung cancer. Smokers are selfish in that they think they have the right to light up whever they want, regardless of how other people feel (especially in regards to asthmatics and children) so it's good the law come in to protect non-smokers from them.

Since smoking causes second-hand smoke that can hurt other people, I think that this law is terrific. I wish all cities had this law. There is nothing worse that trying to eat in a place full of smoke.

I live in Arkansas, USA and it's illegal for anyone to smoke anywhere someone under 21 is premitted. So no smoking in restaraunts or most clubs or anywhere else public not even in our outdoor amusement park, only in desinated smoking areas. And yes I think it's stupid. If people don't want to be around smoke than just stay away.

Some people don't want to be around cigarette smoke as they presume it to be a danger to their health. Some people don't like having to read questions about 'smoking laws' in the MOVIE catagory of Yahoo! Answers either ;-)

Its the same here in Maryland/Washington DC area. I am a smoker and disagree. There should be smoking and non smoking sections. But if you talk to a non smoker they are going to say second hand smoke will kill me. There should be no smoking anywhere. Smoking is my choice and someone telling me I cant smoke is wrong. But that's my opinion.
