Yes, overcharging and bad starting are common side affects.
Also the high current draws involved may take out electronic units.
Check the battery post as well when replacing terminal.
All good motor spare shops should stock them.

once a diesel engine is running it'll stay on with or without the battery connected. a bad terminal can spark and cause a fire wile car is running.

go to auto zone , ask the guy to look under the hood, if the cable is bad he will sell you the right one or tighten it up. a loose + battery cable your car will have a lot of problems , get it fixed !
