Hibernation is a when animals can't Migrate so they store up lots of fats and basically sleep through the winter using very little energy. They basically starve during this period and thier body would consume all the fats, animals need to ensure they hit thier peak body weight otherwise they will die during hibernation.

Well most plants in northern climates enter a stage of dormancy. In other words they go to sleep until growing conditions return. Animals such as bears and some smaller mamals also go to sleep or into hibernation. During this sleep their life functions drop to almost nothing in order to conserve energy and body heat. warm weather increased sunlight and thawing of the ground all signal the time for these plants and animals to wake up and begin feed or raise their young which may have been born over the winter months.
