All you need to do is connect your digital camera and turn it on. If iPhoto recognizes it, iPhoto will launch and asks if you want to import. Afterwards you will need to Eject the camera icon thats on your desktop by clicking on it and drag it to the Trash or click once to highilght it and press the Eject key that's on the upper right of your keyboard.
If iPhoto doesn't recognize the camera, launch Image Capture.app that's in your Applications folder and use that to copy your pictures to your hard drive. Afterwards you can then launch iPhoto and import them to iPhoto Library.

Using Image Capture to transfer images from your camera or scanner
After connecting your scanner or camera to your computer (using USB, FireWire, or Bluetooth), you can turn it on and then use Image Capture to transfer your images. If your camera records video clips and MP3 sounds, you can transfer these, too. And you can transfer items from your computer to many camera models.

You can set Image Capture to perform tasks automatically when you transfer items, such as start a full-screen slideshow, place items in specific folders, format images for printing at specific sizes, preview images, or create a simple webpage using your images.

You can share images from your digital camera or scanner over a local network, or over the web. You can control some digital cameras over the web, so you can monitor an area remotely.

When scanning an image, you can preview and crop the image before transferring it to your computer.

To learn more about using Image Capture, open Image Capture and choose Help > Image Capture Help.

you have a few ways to download pictures from your digital camera to computer. 1. Provided you have the UBS cable for the camera. Then you just connect the camera to pc with that USB cable. You probably need to install the driver for the PC to recognise your camera if you are running on operating system older than XP. 2. Provided you have a card reader and your pictures taken by your camera is stored in a memory card. Just take out the memory card from your camera and insert it onto your card reader and it works like a thumb drive. 3. If you don't have USB cable, card reader nor memory card, just bring your camera to a photo lab and they'll have the right equipment to have your pictures write to a CD for you, which you can access with a CD-ROM.
