Can someone recommend some good funk bass bands/bassists? Preferably fairly new stuff, but anything will do!
I already listen to Level 42.

Try P-funks bassist Bootsy Collins, Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers (but mostly their old stuff) and Levi Levi from My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult.

Bootsy Collins of Parliament, the bassist for Kajagoogoo, an 80's band that did, "Too Shy". And look into Victor Wooten with Bela Fleck. He is a magician!! He can do ANYTHING!!!!
This is an edit. I was reminded by someone else's answer....FLEA!!!!!!!!!! Definately FLEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Check out, "Blood Sugar Sex Magic", and let the funk begin!!!!

Mr bungle, faith no more, Primus. A tad bit heavier. Also Talking heads are a little bass funky.
