1998. Here's a short version of how they became a band: Jay Demarcus moved to Nashville in 1992 to become a song writer, he was part of a Cristian duo called "East To West", then got a job as Chely Wright's band leader. Gary Levox moved to Nashville to write and preform with multiple instrument playing Jay (they're cousins). Joe Don Rooney was Chely Wrights guitarist, one night when Jay and Gary's guitarist couldn't show up for a performance at a bar Jay invited Joe Don to fill in. Then they preformed together from then on and released their first album under the lyric street record label.

2000's. I've read many of their biographies and they all say different years but majority of them say 2000. Their first album "Rascal Flatts" was also released on the 2000.

Actually, it started a little bit of time behind because Jay invited Joe to fill in in a performance and that was when they started to perform all together.

They released their first album in 2000, so I'm guessing 1999, although the two cousins had been together since 1997.
