I'm think medium sized town, safe for kids to play on the street. Good amount of activities going on and climate not to severe.

Knoxville, TN
Mild weather. Beautiful Lakes and the Smokey Mountains.
Great School System and some good afforable private schools. There is a suburb of Knoxville called Farragut, most of the neighborhood streets end in a cul-de sac, great for the kids.

I have to vote for San Diego as well, but it is getting more crowded all the time. I lived in Escondido for several years and loved it. I've heard great things about Idaho (setting for Napoleon Dynamite) and Olympia Washington. Actually, the Pacific northwest in general should be very pleasant, if you don't mind rain.

I would go for the house of my cousin in Poway, California. Their neighbors are like 1/2 mile away from their house and I think it's really peaceful to live there. They're like in the mountain or something,

Any suburb of San Diego...awesome climate, housing prices are dropping still and many, many family neighborhoods.
