No, seriously. How to wake up? As soon as the alarm goes off, my mind makes up a very interesting and - believable - story that integrates the alarm in the dream. Like it is an alarm signal in the war. One time, I dreamt that I actually turned it off when I didn't.
Even if I manage to turn it off (snooze), I typically press it 10-20 times (even though the alarm is in another room), then go back to bed.

Ideas?

Are you getting enough sleep? maybe you dont want to wake up or are depressed ( just a possible thought) but i think maybe if you arent going to bed early enough you'll be too tired in the morning for your mind to care about waking up on time. maybe you could have your lights come on when its time to wake up. thats all i can think of right now

You obviously have a problem that is a little bit more than wanting an extra 5 minutes. It sounds to me that you aren't getting the correct sort of sleep in the first place or you would wake up to an alarm sound feeling refreshed and ready to get up not still so deeply asleep that you don't recognise it as an alarm.

Therefore, I would suggest you visit a sleep disorder clinic and see if your sleeping patterns are in order and if you can be helped in someway to have better sleep that will make it easier for you to wake up when prompted by an alarm.

That was happening to me for a while too....in my case it was a lack of sleep and my mind was turning the sound into something in my dream (the phone ringing, the alarm going off when i come into my house, etc.) Try this, re-set your alarm every night and think about it before you go to bed, say to yourself "I have to wake up at ______(whatever the time is)" That's how I got myself out of it.

I have this problem, I try going to sleep early, doesn't matter. I set my alarm for really loud under my bed, so i have to crawl under there to get it, i end up hitting snooze and going to sleep underneath my bed, until, finally, my body tells me to get the fukc up, its 5 minutes til i need to leave. I dint know if i have a disorder, because on the weekends, i usually sleep 14-15 hours O_O;... is 14-15 hours too much? Anyways, try different things, I like to actually try to look forward to the next day, so i can get up. Or i try to leave some work i need to do the next day for the next morning, so i HAVE to wake up to do it. (Don't try it, usually doesnt work) Again, just keep trying new things.

I had the same problem when I wasn't getting a good QUALITY sleep. Maybe you are sleeping on an uncomfortable matress.....this would affect the amount of times you subconciously woke up in the night which in turn would make you exhausted in the mornings.....

The mode of ignorance is very difficult to overcome. I find the best way is to get a CD of the Maha Mantra to come on Very loud for your alarm . It takes one out of the mode of ignorance and brings one to their highest potential. What a way to start the day. go to harekrishnatemple.c for details.

Purchase a programmable outlet plug to make a very bright light come on. Your inability to get up might be a sign of a bigger problem. You should consider a "sleep study" to see if you have sleep apnea or another condition. See your physician about this.

Very good question. I do exactly the same at times, even dreaming I am getting up and ready. I'll sit in on the answers if that's ok!

Use several alarms? Have someone get you up?
