i belive that it can be done but the software is not economical for anyone to purchase it. 3 will give an unlock code but last time i asked it was a 3 figure sum. Sometimes some of the samsung phones will work the 3 sim card but only some of them, and not sure which models that are current.

3 don't want anyone using there handsets on an old 2g network like vodafone or 02's as they end up paying them roamin charges, as the 3 network is more advanced and the roaming does not work the other way. That's the reason you can't buy a 3 sim card and stick it in you old phone....
As with every mobile phone once you have spent sufficient money with them approx €150 in Ireland they have to give you the unlock code for your phone....Call you network provider and look for the unlock code...
