When I was at a holiday party this year, the family had, what I thought, was a great and unique gift idea.....u.s. mint coins. Check on ebay, or a coin shop and get the baby a set of coins from the year he is/was born.....then get him a new set every year. It would be a great collection by the time he was an adult, and could be quite valueable.....
I thought it was neat, and I'm going to do it for my daughter.

A few years ago my friend's parents were having yet another baby. They were older, pretty wealthy and had baby stuff from the other kids so I couldn't decide on what they still needed. They were having a boy so I bought him a little yankees jacket (we live in NY) and then wrote a letter for the family awknowledging the baby as a blessing and saying why they were a great family (giving examples for each member of the family)...etc.
They really loved the sentimentality of the letter and it became a center piece of their baby memorabilia book! So, I think something thoughtful could stand out more than all the bells and whistles available today!
Also, another non-material item would be starting a small college fund (if you are very lose to the family) that you could contribute to annually, or getting a long-term CD for the year the baby is born and then letting them have it when they are 18 or gradaute HS or something like that. BELIEVE ME, had someone thought of me when I was born and presented me with a small college fund with a couple hundred bucks it would have been the biggest blessing!

I like the picture frame idea. that woudl be nice........a frame for the new baby. Or a simple gift that each baby needs a new one.....like the first tooth/first lock of hair box. Something small (and inexpensive) but thoughtful. And things like that (frames, memento, etc) are general not required to be stylish.
One thing I regreted not getting was the fram that had a small spot for a picture each month, then a larger 1 year in the middle. anything like that should do.
good luck.....

When I was pregnant my shower host gave me a mommy bag with a pair of slippers, a back massager, and some pampering lotions that smelled like strawberry daquiris since I couldn't have the real thing. That meant alot and then she just bought a cute outfit for the baby. It was the only mommy gift I got and it was very special that she thought of it. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

As a soon to be grandma, I've come across a lot of neat gifts. I also wanted to buy "special" out of the ordinary things. My favorites I've found so far less than $50:
1. A Noo Noo Blanket ( do a google search for "noo noo blanket" to see the varieties
2. a Sterling Silver Pacifier Clip, which you can get engraved. I found a really cute lamb one at a place called Chasing Fireflies. Search for "chasing fireflies"

I think a super idea would be a gift cert. to a local restuarant & an offer to babysit the baby while they go out to eat.
it's perfect for the couple who literally has everything
even just an offer to baby sit--or go over and clean the house for them -little things like that are what they are going to need a lot of with a new baby

YAY I actual were waiting for someone to ask this question as I were given the suitable babyshower present. I were given it type my cousin and his fiance. My cousin gave up the ghost the week earlier my babyshower and his fiance nonetheless got here so as that made the present all that a lot fantastic. They were given slightly tubbaware and were given a garments line with pins on they end they tied a folded blanket. Then on the line they placed a collection of garments like in case you've been fantastic laundry. So at the same time as i replaced into pulling the string out it replaced into by no skill ending clothing. It would not could be so expensive both (regardless of if theirs replaced into it replaced into all carters clothing) notwithstanding it replaced into clothing they in simple terms seperated it by technique of the pins. Iike the blouse on one pin, pantsn bib, socks all on seperate pins. anybody at my babyshower loved it. It took about 3 human beings to carry it because the string in simple terms save going and going I loved it. good success

I would say a nice photo album. People take hundreds of pictures and can never have enough photo albums.

you may want to try a gift card, that way they can buy what they want more of, or something you dont know they have.
