But when you make it just a "black" holiday you go against everything he stood for.
To me, it is a day that stands for all men and equality. That aware people understand one man is no better than another no matter what his race or religion. It is a day to remember how far we've come but how very far we have to go.
Myself, it makes me wonder how people of this great country could be so small minded and I wonder how they would feel today. Would they realize what mistakes were made and would they be ashamed? It is a day to mourn what was and remember those who suffered but it is a day to celebrate that we had someone so great that all men looked up to him and he began to have us come out of the dark and into the light.
Also, you need to use spell check and educate yourself on grammar. I think that is a way you can honor him. It would be "what's", "people", it would be OUR veins, not ARE (notice that spelling on veins) and the word is does not dose.

Tomorrow is the day to remember what exactly Martin Luther King did. I live in the Bay Area, East Bay to be exact, there are many blacks where I live. They all love MLK. There are alot of celebrations in Oakland, including every year there is a 1:00 PM Warriors basketball game in Oakland and I've been to one, there is an honorary tribute to MLK and everybody is silent and praise. So in my area, it is a very important day.

I do have to work but I am going to make an attempt to Reflect On not only Mlk but others who if not for them we would not be in the position to do what others were not. He has made strong strides to make us equal even though we are still not doors have definitely opened for us which would not be possible if not for the ones who came be for us.

I loved BlueSea's answer. I work, voluntarily, on a lot of holidays because it's quiet and I can get a lot of work done. I would never think of working on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. I honor him with all my heart, and, if it matters--which it shouldn't--I'm white.

there is only one race and that is human, by using the term black that completley violates everything he worked hard for. he just wanted equality in this world.

tomorrow it is a day for me to sleep late. It's not that I don't support MLK but I don't go out on marches or walks or protests or anything like that.

It doesn't mean to me what it means to you. To me it means that everyone as a whole in America can come together and break bread without prejudice and hatred.
