The best place to adopt a ferret and get information is from a local ferret shelter in your area. Here they have dozens of ferrets for you to choose from, and the adoption fee is usually minimal. Plus you are getting the ferret from true experts on the species who can answer any questions you may have about ferret ownership. I got both my ferrets from a shelter!

Since Petco and other large chain pet stores really only buy from their suppliers, I'd say maybe that yours got missed in the tattoo department at the breeders. If your ferret was spayed/neutered you should be able to find a small incision scar. It made be difficult to find since ferrets are pretty squirmy. Most critters including fish and all supplies are bought from a warehouse and then shipped as an order to the large chain stores. I worked for a pet supply company, and was in charge of taking care of the small mammals, which also included filling orders. The ferrets we got in came directly from the breeder which was Marshall. I remember some who were missing their ear dots, but came in the same box as others tattooed. I would think if you bought your ferret from a privately owned pet shop, you could question if it was a Marshall or not. Hope this helped a little bit.

have you tried kingsnake.com? they have a section for exotic animal breeders. ferrets included. and im glad to see someone not rushing out to the nearest petstore to buy a pet. although youre not buying one from petco because theyre old, i think people should stop buying from petstores because most perstores are HORRIBLE. Not all, but most. PetNo, where the pets die.

Please don't use pet-co or petsmart for any animal purchases. I had a puppy that was abused at a petsmart groomer and since I have talked to many people that have worked at both places and say that the practices of both stores are not pet-friendly at all. They are just out to make a buck. I am not sure what area you live in, but PLEASE look for other possibilities for pet stores.
