Are there good places to shop, eat, entertainment. I'm applying for a job at Bates College.

I personally am not a fan. Maine has a few nice places to live..Portland...is one that I can think of off the top of my head.
Over all...its friggin cold there most of the year. Summer lasts about 2 months. if you are near the water..maybe less.
If you dont mind the cold and being somewhat isolated...you could get along anywhere in Maine.

Lewiston isn't the best city to live in, but Maine is a pretty rural state, so you'll get used to driving longer distances to get pretty much anywhere - and there definitely are more attractive choices within an acceptable distance of Bates. I'd recommend you float the idea of living in a smaller community in the area, because you'll need to drive to any services / shopping / dining anyway. Portland isn't that far and there is more than enough to see and do there.

It is kind of a dirty town. There are better ones near by.
