I love the printer. The past few times I've used it however, there are ghost prints of the words I've typed, so the documents I print look all black & smeared. I don't know where the instruction manual is, so don't know if there are buttons to push, words to type, or if I need to change a cartridge. If I do need to change a cartridge, how do I do it w/out breaking the printer. Thanks for your answer! Brenda

Go on the HP website and download a manual for free. It will also help if you go on the troubleshooting link and identify your problem and they give you instructions on what to do.

Have you changed the toner cartridge? Though it very well could need a maintenance kit. Laser printers every so often need a maintenance kit. It sounds like you may need a new fuser, it comes with a maintenance kit.

Linda... go to Office Max or any other office supply store and get laser printer cleaning sheets... they pick up excess toner inside the machine...

Sorry, I don't know the LaserJet 1020, but you can download the manual here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?product=439320&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us
Perhaps it will help you to clean your printer.

when I were given XP - i got here upon that my somewhat new HP printer changed into not supported so i might want to not receive the drivers - do not understand if it is your mission yet often times the justifications are so obvious that we do not imagine of them first.
