You should be able to purchase pamphlets are hardware stores...and some even give them out for free. I know that Time/Life has a series of home repair books. Also, try ebay, and amazon.com . Best of luck to you.

Most libraries have excellent selections on this topic. Do you have a public library near you? A college library might even be a possibility. Or, if no library, then how about a book store? You can read the section you need right there and not have to purchase the book if the section is not too long.

Home Depot.. they have a home repair and do-it-yourself book which is awesome. Not to much $$ either.

Handyman is a good magazine for home repair.
