what would cause the cruise control to not hold a consistent speed/ it fluctuates very quickly up and down by 2 mph very annoying...turn it off van runs perfectly...best simularity to it is it feels just like your typical miss in a gasoline engine when it is on at 70 mph. or any speed setting. it has a new idm (injector drive module) it made no difference in problem.

Probably a vacuam leak or dry speedometer cable.

Check the vacuum lines from the dash pot to the manifold. The dash pot is the vacuum motor device that pulls on the injector pressure regulator, (like a throttle). Might be a vacuum generator motor limit switch.

I easily have a 1994 f 350 dually with an identical engine. interstate utilising i'm getting 22 mpg with out pulling a load. entire miles on engine approx. 85000; additionally I easily have a shell over the mattress.
