It has an antiinflammatory effect. Also it is thought to slow the neutrophils or white blood cells that rush to attack the virus. This rush of white blood cells can cause congestion and fluid build up in the chest and the chicken soup by slowing the WBCs can ease the congestion.

No one really knows. There was an institute that was trying to come up with a cure for the common cold it stayed open for thirty years and they were not able to find a cure so they closed. ( this was a years ago)

Actually it doesn't cure a cold at all. Apparently it is comfort food which makes us feel better. Many people remember the fact that their mum or dad always made it for them when they were ill as a child so when ever your ill you automatically assume that it will make you better, which it does, emotionally anyway but physically no.

You know, I think it is just the heat. If you drink something warm, it makes your nose run, and clears some of the snot out and makes you feel better! And chicken soup has protein and is good for you anyway!

Its the mass amounts of Vitamin W that essentially backs up your immune system. When your immunte system is fighting a sickness, its using all of its resources. With Vitamin W and 30,000 more troops its able to defend itself and attack the oncoming invaders. Right?

Nothing cures a cold (so far). It can make you feel a bit better thanks to the warmth and humidity it provides to your sinuses as you drink it. The salt also makes your throat feel better..
