I have a Acer system, with speakers built into the monitor. (not very good sound) I have maximised my volume, and been in programs/accessories/sounds. Is it possible to just add extra speakers in the back of the tower, if so do I need extra drivers ? thanks

yes, you can connect external speakers in the back of your computer. Usually a Green socket with a little Speaker icon above the socket. No drivers are needed for the speakers.

Also, you can set your speakers to Monitor Speakers which may improve your sound...

1: Go to Control Panel
2" Click on "Sounds & Audio Devices"
3: Click on Advanced
4: Click on VOLUME Tab
5: Click on "Advanced" at bottom Right
6: Click on "Speaker Setup" to select your particular Speaker set

If you dont have a sound card, consider one and a good quality one. If you have surround speakers, make sure the SC is suitable or buy a SC and surroung speaker set. Make sure you install the software that comes with the SC or Speaker set for best performace.

I've got a creative 7.1 speaker set hooked up to a creative SC. Great sound but any combination will do as long as you match the SC to speaker set

The best thing is to buy a pci sound card, If you have a acer they are likely to have low sound quality.

you shouldn't need any extra drivers, but you have to change the speaker choices in sound when you plug in new speakers for them to work. have a new set of ALTEC Lansing speakers, about $40 work good.
