Intimacy is a part of a relationship, but not by far of any major significance. If two people love each other and get along well they don't have to be intimate at all.
And I'd rephrase your question, because it sounds somewhat like you think women are only good for intimacy.

I think it would be a good thing. My girlfriends and I don't have sex with each other - it sorta gets in the way of our friendship.

if you think a girlfriend is only good for sex then she's not really a girlfriend in the first place. perhaps if she knew you thought this way, she wouldnt even want to be your girlfriend

Why don't you buy some Lee press on nails and a ladies watch. Put them on and you got yourself a date. This is probably the best thing you have experience anyway with the attitude you have. Stick with you hand it won't turn you down.........yet.
