It definitely still exists. I remember when I was in high school (yes, it's been a while) there was a section of the cafeteria that was understood to be the "black" section, where the black students would congregate and eat together, separately from white students. Even people of different races who were friends usually ate apart. (There were always exceptions, of course.)
Later, in college, the social structure was much the same. People of different races could and did become friends, but the social scene was self-segregated.
These things I still see today, though perhaps a little less.
In housing and in social connection, even in church, people gather in groups based on race.
This may be as much cultural as anything, since generations of official segregation forced the creation of separate cultural traditions and identifications within a single country.
It's sad--you can go to school with someone, work with someone, even live next door, but there is a distance. We can only hope that time will bring about change.

Yes, where I used to work and in my community there seems to be a lot of segregation. Everyone seems to get along, but it is obvious to look around and you see who is sitting with who and who hangs out after work together more. While your working, it doesn't seem evident at all because we all have the same job to get done- but sometimes it is noticeable when things slow down a little.

To an extent there is. Especially amongst older people. The Chinese and the Russians don't really mix at all. The younger people seem to mix a lot better. I think it might have something to do with drugs. Drugs bring people together. (They also tear families apart, but that's another story.)

There definitely is at Indiana University, which I currently attend. It's not so prevalent in the classroom, but once you leave the classroom, it's very striking. You'll see groups of academic Asians, fashion-forward Asians, blacks, hispanics, jocks, Greeks (fraternity/sorority) all hanging in separate groups.

Yes, I see my students segregate themselves often...Laotian, Hispanic, African American...sometimes it's due to language deficiency, other times they mix well together.
