I know this is a weird question, but...

My husband won this UGLY trophy for playing canasta last night. He has joked a few times about proudly displaying it in our house...even adding accent lighting to highlight it.

I'd really like to surpirse him by having it ridiculously highlighted and displayed in our house. I want it to be waaay over the top.

I've thought of putting it on the mantel with a bunch of arrows pointing to it, but I want to do something more creative than that.

Any ideas? It's the size of a medium sized trophy.

UM..remember when I said he was JOKING about displaying it?? He KNOWS it's hideous. He's going to think it's hilarious to come home to see his trophy ridiculously displayed. GEESH...grow a sense of humor!

String it with small Christmas tree lights, and add some ornaments.

If you can find some that are not too expensive, buy a neon light or two and use them to highlight his trophy.
Also, you could plan a party, it doesn't have to be big but send out invites like it is the bash of the season. Call it a "coming out" party for the trophy.
Make a sign to set up in front of your house for when your husband gets home that says: "Come inside to see the 8th wonder of the world!"
Find some way to clear the room or wall where you are going to display the trophy. Leave only the trophy, the case it's in, and the accent lights.

Maybe instead of making it obviously over the top, you could treat in in a mock-serious manner.
Find a nook or put up a shelf, back it with royal-purple satin or velvet, set up special lighting. You might even have a sensor that will play some specially-selected appropriate music when the light comes on.
("We are the Champions" by Queen, or anything that fits with the personality you're dealing with.) You could even have a short history leading up to the winning of the trophy run up and framed (maybe even done as a news story) and hung below the trophy.
If this is the only trophy in the family and you have the space available, it might even be great to to a "TROPHY WALL" with that as its lone occupant.
Sounds like fun. Hope you all enjoy!

Here's an idea that may be easy. Find a pedestal or small table that you can put outside by the front door. Put the trophy on that. Get one of those Christmas spot lights and shine it on the trophy for all to admire. Playing Queen's "We are the Champions" loudly out the window would be a nice finishing touch. He should appreciate the advertising that you are accomplishing for him.

string a wire through it, turn it into a lamp and place in your house's front window. (remember the Lamp from the movie "A Christmas Story"?

If you can pull off that reference, he'll definitely understand just how ugly you think his trophy is.

Why do you feel the need to minimize his accomplishment? Why not let him have his toy and allow him his feelings of accomplishment? That won't cost you near as much as embarrassing him will.

make a small ALTER somewhere in living room and put trophy on that. put a rope around table like a barricade.
send out invitations to everyone to come see it- hire a local teenager to act as a security guard. when friends come over -tell them no autographs at this time

How about putting it in a lighted cabinet if you have it. You know, the kind reserved for fine china or knickknacks. Or you could put it on your coffee table or dining room table and highlight it with candles, like it is a cute centerpiece

why not encase it in one of those pretty boxes for closets, deep enough so you can cover it with a piece of glass and fixed solidly to the sides, on top of it place your playing cards etc..so each time he takes out the "card box" to one of the games or to play at home, all can see the trophy...this way it wont get dusty, and he'll have it for years arghhh...

Do you have a pool room? I think, 'it needs to go straight to the pool room!' in your most prized place! (The Castle movie) lol

Good luck!
