The past few days my daughter has been saying she's very itchy in her vaginal area inside. I made an appt with her doctor but can't get into see her until Tuesday. I was just wondering if a 6 y/o can experience vaginal dryness similar to how adults get it? We haven't changed soaps or laundry detergent. She's been scratching a lot in the area and I want to know if there's something suitable at a drug store or even a home remedy I can use to help ease her discomfort until we see her doctor? I'm going to the drug store later and will ask the pharmasist as well but want to see what you guys say.

I agree with the answer above about little girls not keeping themselves clean. Also, you can just let her put a little diaper rash cream on the outside area that itches. It's good to take her to the doc though. Christie

Have you let your daughter use a new bath bubble or soap recently sometimes girls will become irritated by that, even using a new laundry detergent and softener can cause it. This is not to rude or anything but have you explained to her the importance of wiping herself properly and explaing the right way to do it. Thats a big one and lots of young girls don't know it. So I'd think about any soaps or cleansers and have the bathroom talk with her, she may have been in a rush one day and not wiped properly. Whatever it is I'm glad your taking it seriously and taking her to a Dr. that is the most important thing, you sound like a great caring mom, but kids will be kids and sometimes you have to stress the importance of personal cleanlyness and the reasons for it (I'm not saying thats what may have happened but a refresher is always wise) same with hand washing especially in the flu season. Good luck.

she could have a yeast infection it very common in girls just as in women my 2 yr old has had 2 already do to antibiotics for ear infections. you could apply that vagisil anti itch not the kind that goes in the vagina but the cream that goes on the out side to help stop the itching thats what my dr prescribed for my daughter
but you might call your local pharmacy to make sure i think walgreens has a 24 hr number you can call and ask

fleas? defense force dermitits. behavoiral subject matters hypersensitive reactions those are different achieveable causes. I truly have a woman with alergies that chews hair off. She takes 500mg of fish oil two times an afternoon to quit it. And a male that does it, he's taking birth control pills (ovaban) andkeeps his hair..

this is common in little girl, sometimes they dont wash there good, or they dont rinse all the soap off good...sitting in the sand/or dirt playing.... but after I made sure she was cleaning her self there really good and it continued I would take her to be checked out by the Doctor.
