there are many things I do not go to the doctor for, just for that same reason. My husband chastises me for it, but I can't bring myself to do it.These are not life or death problems either, but I can't bare to tell someone about them either. I suggest if it is something serious, you need to tell your doctor one way or the other. maybe write it down and take the paper in with you. Advise your doctor of your embarrassment as well. They might tend to be more sympathetic if you tell them. I had a doctor once tell me all my problems were because I was fat !! I was 5'5" & 130lbs, not fat by any means, but I was traumatized !!!

Dear Crystal, you should know that Doctors really have heard it all and believe me what you may think is embarrassing could be quite common to them. It's hard to tell anyone about something embarrassing but you must remember the most important thing is your health and that is what Dr.'s concern themselves with first and formost. Would it help you to take along a close friend? Another thing look up your problem on the net (find a good medical site like Ivilliage or Mayo Clinic) and see if there is a catagorie in the area your concerned with. It might make you feel better to know that many people have the gone through the same situation as yourself. I really wish well and please remember your health is most important. Good luck!

Probably one of the easiest ways to try not to feel embarrassed is to realize that the Doctor has quite likely seen and heard your questions or problems a number of times before. If it is your first internal physical and you're feeling nervous ask if a nurse can be in the room with you. Most clinics will accommodate you. Doctors realize that people are quite often embarrassed and will do all they can to help you feel comfortable. Good luck and don't worry

I know it's hard to discuss things that you find embarrassing with the doctor, but keep this in mind: They've probably heard WAY worse. The other thing is, they can't help it stop unless you tell them. They aren't going to NOT treat you because you told them something gross or embarrassing.
I learned that you just have to assume that they've heard things that put your embarrassing problem to shame, and it won't be the first time or the last time for them. Try and put it in a way that is as least embarrassing for you, but DO tell them. Like I said, they can't help you if they don't know what to treat.
It'll be okay.

Please don't be embarrassed! Doctors are trained to treat the human body just as a mechanic is trained to fix cars. I am a nurse and believe me, none of us in the office are judging you, we want to help you. We certainly don't want you suffering with an embarrassing problem. Please just go and be honest with your doctor. There may be a very simple way to resolve your problem. I don't know what it is so I can't get deeper into it for you to tell you what may possibly be done. If you would like to contact me for further info please do, sandya46@charter.net I have been a nurse for many years and still have not seen any doctor make fun of someone's problem.

ahh, don't be embarrassed. They've seen it all...many times, too. It's almost impossible to shock a doctor or a nurse. Let him know you're embarrassed, but I bet he'll treat it matter of factly. It's just another day at work for him. And you should also know that doctors aren't allowed to talk about their patients to anybody unless they're directly involved in treating you.

First and foremost, realize that they've seen it ALL. You wouldn't believe the strange things they hear and see. Whatever your issue is there's a good chance they've seen it many times. So they won't be shocked, or even surprised. So don't worry about being humiliated, get the help you need.

Trust me on this one...no matter how embarrassing you think you're problem is, the Doctor will tell you he's seen it far worse.
(I had to make an unbelievably embarrassing trip to the ER one time, and the doctors had acted like it was nothing) Good luck!

Go to a new doctor in a different town if you are embarrassed to tell your regular doctor. People don't understand that doctors and everyone else in that office are sworn to secrecy. You will have to deal with embarrassing situations in your life, and it will get easier, but GO.
