Preparing- Study in a quiet room that is comfortable but not too comfortable. Remove all distractions. Try to study each subject for at least an hour to two hours. Look over old quizzes and tests and find out the right answers to questions that you got wrong. Most exams in high school are taken from previous quizzes and tests. And of course, follow the study guides given to you completely. Reread book sections and notes.
Taking- Relax. Look at every question carefully and do your best. Look at how many questions there are in the exam and figure out how much time you should spend at the most on each question based on how much time you have to complete the exam. For example, if you have 100 questions on the exam and there are two hours to complete it, you have 1 minute and 20 seconds for each question. If you can't get the answer in the time limit, skip it and go to the next question and come back to that question later. Do not leave multiple choice, matching, true/false questions blank. Think about the question and try to eliminate the answers you know are wrong so that you can make an educated guess on which of the remaining answers is correct. If the question is open ended, answer as much of it as you can. The only time you should leave a question blank if you don't know the answer is if the teacher specifically says that blank answers will not be counted against you.

Form a study group with some classmates (preferably the smartest ones). Pay special attention to all the things that were covered in class (not just the syllabus materials) because that is what the teachers mostly test on. For exam day - get plenty of sleep, eat nutrious meals and just stay calm by pacing yourself on the questions and taking lots of deep breaths. I use to wear earplugs to exams so I could focus on the test without being distracted by all the nervous people around me flipping their papers and scribbling their answers a mile a minute.

relax and take it like its not a test. When you panic, thats when you fail. Also eat breakfast the day of the exam. Use your common sense. Go back to questions because sometimes they give away answers. Make cheat cheat becuase it helps you learn the material. Take good notes and study ahead of time

Get a good study guide and learn the material. That was the only thing that ever worked for me. Apply butt to chair and get some scratch paper and study your notes and the text book and material til you know it. Try to get some rest before the test to do your best.
