believe it or not myspace is very safe. you cannot easily find trouble unless you go LOOK for it. but it does somewhat depend on the age of your niece and her level of responsiblility. myspace is not supposed to be for kids under 13 1/2. as for the places like pimpyourpro.com and stuff there are some links to inapropriate things such as the "whore trains", but if you trust her enough to avoid things like that, she'll be fine.

Our school district sent home a letter warning parents about the dangers of "my space". There have been at least two reports on NBC about the dangers of "my space". I won't let my kids any where near it!! Check out the MSNBC web site about more information. Good luck.

the sites themselves are very safe. to my knowledge, there have been no reported cases of people being involuntarily abducted due to their myspaces. however, attractive people are sometimes stalked via email or IM, so be sure she doesn't release this information to complete strangers.
however, there have been numerous cases of grown men seducing young girls online and abducting them with a debatable degree of consent. just be sure she doesn't meet anyone in real life that she met on myspace.

How old is your neice? My dad sent an e-mail to 'myspace' and told them to delete my account because they do in fact have inappropriate things on there that many young children shouldn't be involved with. This is because it is not a site meant for just children...but for anyone that wants to join.
