If you have zero experience in journalism, don't even bother -- especially if you don't know how to go about doing it. I know this isn't what you want to hear, but it's reality. Editors at a big-time publication such as Time don't have any time to waste on reading unsolicited stories. Every publication has strict standards for how stories should be written. And if you don't know these beforehand, your submission will go straight to the trash bin or right back at you.

You have to start small.

A.) Tell me you weren't serious with that "I write good" comment.
I don't know a heck of a lot about freelance as I've always had a steady newspaper gig. Anyway, if you do, in fact, write well, start with a copy of a book I think is called "The Writer's Handbook." It lists of all the magazines, etc. that accept freelance work, how much they pay, what kind of articles, etc. DO NOT send anyone a full article. They should be ethical, and they probably will be, but they may just send out their own reporter to interview your sources and write their own version of your article. Do some leg work and interviews and send a pitch to the various magazines, etc. -- a taste of what your article will be (with a couple of graphs to really whet their palates).
As with any writing job, you'll have to prove yourself before they'll let you prove yourself. But if you have no experience, you'll have to start very small -- especially in freelance where it is even harder to build a name for yourself. Or try a small local weekly paper.
The best part is, as I recall, most libraries carry a copy of the book -- ask at the reference desk.

Surely The Lord God would do nothing but He revealeth His secrets to His servants the prophets. He wouldn't have an email, search His word instead of daydreaming.

I do volunteer writing for www.tothecenter.com.

It is freelance, unpaid writing. There are guidelines, and we try to write unbiased articles. You should try it - it would at least start to get your name out there.

If you have a degree in journalism - that might help you get into the bigger name newspapers and magazines. I would think so, anyways.
