Unless you already have a parking space, I wouldn't buy a car in Manhattan, unless you are going to be going out of town almost every day. The expenses you incur will far exceed the small amount you would normally pay to rent a car for a few days a month.

why need a car in Manhattan? You gonna pay more just keeping it in a lot than you would paying for it. Just rent one if you need one for a few days.

you are going to have to go to the outer boroughs if you are looking to buy a car from a new car dealership, unless you are looking for a Mercedes or BMW, both of which have dealerships in Manhattan. Otherwise - go to queens, or westchester......
