I am typing this right now with a cup of tea to my left and a pistol to my right. My adrenaline seems to be on high all the time. I jump at little noises and I am always ready to fight. How do I stop this?

I think your reaction in jumping out of your skin is perfectly normal. The cup of tea is correct to calm you down, but the pistol is not. You should not always have to be ready to fight. That can actually be bad physically for you. Your always in a guarded frame of mind just ready to react. Is your neighborhood ok-maybe you should think about a neighborhood where you could be more protected. Also, look around your Apt.--is there something you can put in place so you would feel more safe in your home (like bars on your windows or more locks on your door). Make an emergency plan on how you would get out of your apt. if a robber or someone bad comes in the front door, or a failsafe place where you could hide. You can protect yourself in many ways.

Ever experienced a very traumatic event? Has this been going on for a while? Hypervigilance and hyperarousal could be symptomatic of post-traumatic stress disorder...

Is there a reason why the pistol may come in handy. Live in a bad 'hood?

Thats just you. You could try relaxing. Or you could put it to use. If your older, you could, like, join the FBI or something that needs instant action. Thats a very valuable skill when helping people.
