there are 4 of us in the household. my husband and i work full-time we both full-time parents(of course) we have separete days off and it just seems that no matter what the house is a diaster. i know with 2 kids it should be "lived in" but this is out of control. i guess what im asking is how do i get a schedule to fit with us?

make it a habit and a rule for everyone in the house that any room they walk into must be tidier when they walk out.that way everyone pitches in a small way, but believe me,it will show.

Make sure things are put up after using them....that's one sure way to keep things tidy. Never put off doing things either.....for example: if there are a sink full of dishes, do them right away or they probably will just sit there for a few days.....procrastinating is the worse! One huge rule in my house to keep it looking tidy is when changing clothes....there are only 2 places for them....back in the drawer/ closet or hamper! This will keep them off the floor. Make sure everyday when you get up, the bed is made, for some reason a bedroom always looks more organized when the bed is made. The best thing I can suggest is to make a chart with a few simple chores for everyone to do and be firm about what each person needs to do. At the end of the week, you may want to reward your family for helping out.....some parents like to give an allowance or something.

Throw out the junk. Old newspapers, broken toys, clothes that you dont need any more. Once you reallize how much space you have get bins and mark them and put your stuff away. Don't let yourself go or you'll be drowning. If you really have a disaster on your hands take a day off and hire a cleaning/organizing service that will help you and give you tips for the future.

Have you checked out www.flylady.net? It's excellent. You get emails telling you different zones for the house and tasks to do for a certain day, but only for 15 minutes at a time. And their favorite thing is 27 Fling Boogie. Throw out 27 things. (You don't have to adhere to it all). One day it could be dust for 15 minutes, another day could be clean your entryway and hang up coats, another day could be to clean under your sink. It's amazing and has really helped me a lot.

Hire help to clean. Be prepared to fire them as needed. In my experience maids always start doing a good job then the turn into slackers. If you can't afford help forget the house. family comes first. nobody really worries the last time you dusted. If they care havd them the vacumn
