Actually, an elephant is an animal that can live both in a jungle, as well as in temperate grasslands.

In places like India, elephants live in jungles. these are tropical jungles in the torrid zone. They live off the vegetation there, breed there..basically they spend their whole lives there. These are Asian elephants.

African elephants on the other hand, live in the temperate or tropical Savannah's in Africa. their main food source is the acacia tree.

As both kinds live in different areas, there are differences in their lifestyle and anatomy.
