There are courses but not a license, mostly to teach you how not to drop a load, which by far the biggest mistake bigginers make and then how to use one safely (ie, how not to run into someone or something (have a clear view and stop points and yellow lines are there for a reason. Lastly to judge how to handle what you are carrying safely so don't role the forklift on yourself which can lead to a world of hurt. The upshot is that the load you are moving has inertia, a moving object wants to stay in motion, so you have to learn how to change and control and stop that motion and how to judge the centre of gravity, know the weight of your load and the weight of your lift all three can lead to serious accidents. I think the law is different when you can drive one and while in different states and you do need certificates but not a licence.

Generally you must be 18 or older. There is a classroom training session of approximately 4 hours and then you would have on the job training of several more hours. Then depending on what you are transporting there could be more training involved. This would be done by someone on the job that has years of experience.

My suggestion is to get a job and then ask your employer to train you on their equipment.

There are specific OSHA regulations and industry safety standards for operating mobile equipment.

Go on line with OSHA and study the regulations. Many people have had severe injuries due to forklifts. Know what you are doing before you do it. Better to be safe than sorry.

You have to be 18, but don't bother with them as they give them away with packets of cornflakes these days!. Get a cpcs telescopic forklift which are used in construction and earn double the money of factory forklifts. They cost about a thousand pound to do cpcs licence but is well worth it! Good luck

Old enough to have a driver's licencse. In most places, you also either have to have a driver's license or have to know how to drive before you can train to be a forklift operator. You need the basic knowledge that you are then taught to adapt to the specific circumstances.
