Fender Or Gibson

Fender is no longer fender of yesteryear as they were purchased long ago and many of the parts are made in Japan. However what really matters at this point is the style you are looking to play. I prefer the Gibson line and own several vintage models such as the Melody Maker, Howard Roberts, ES 335, SG special and deluxe and Hummingbird Acoustic. That's aside from my Takamine and Washburn guitars. I do have a Jazz Bass, a Mustang and Telecaster but never really cared for the Stratocaster or the heaviness of the Gibson Les Paul either. I prefer a clean fast action and mostly play the SG's. My advice is to go play them for awhile at a good music retailer like Sam Ash or Guitar City. They usually have rooms where you can try out guitars and amps. Of course bring the check book because good guitars cost lots of money.

Tough. I have the Gibson L5...a jazz guitar classic. I have a strat for the rest of the work. I think that Gibson edges Fender out a little.

I own one of each, but truthfully, you can buy guitars that play well and give you the best of both worlds - a humbucker pickup and a single coil.

How the guitar plays is more important than the pickups; you can always change them.

I would think that this would be a matter of choice because there are so many excellent ones to choose from.
Do lots of research and then make your own judgment.
