I am a muslim, I was a Christian, tried to find out about all sorts of religions but I felt they were all fairy stories. God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost - the Holy Trinity - didn't make sense. I used to ask the nuns at the convent, "How can three Gods be one?" The answer I got was, "Get out of the classroom!" "Don't question" "If your not a Catholic you will go to Hell, only Catholics go to heaven!". My mother is Church of England my father is a Catholic. I was still a Christian when I got married. I have been married for 23 years. There was no pressure for me to change my religion, however, once I got pregnant I started to think how confusing it might be for a child to have parents of different religions. It was bad enough having parents who were both Christians just different denominations.
Anyway, I saw the film The Message - a very moving film - and then I went to the library and read as many books about Islam as I could and the life of the Prophet (pbuh).
People say that the Muslims copied the Bible, the prophet Mohamed could not read or write. All of the Suras in the Qaran were memorised by the prophet and his followers. So many scientific facts are mentioned in the Qaran which are only just being proved - how honey and garlic are antibiotics, dates are an anti-oxident. (Just to mention a few). So many foods are mentioned in the Qaran and also foods to be avoided. How could this man have known this - he didn't - he learnt it from God.
It is also the Muslim teaching and belief to respect all religions, all of Gods books came from different prophets - Jesus was a prophet -this is why the Jewish Book, (can't remember its name), the Bible and the Qaran are all similar with similar teachings. There is very little to choose between them all. I am the same person I always was. I love my Christian family and friends and my Muslim family and friends. We all get along fine (as long as we avoid the topic of religion!) JOKE
On my last visit to the UK my brother asked me why Muslims were protesting in London with banners saying "Kill the infidels!", this was the first that I had heard about it. He said that a survey had been done in the UK and a high percentage of Muslims asked about the Twin Towers 9/11 said they thought that it was a good thing. I said anyone who felt that way should not be allowed to stay in the UK and secondly they were not Muslims. It says in the Quaran that if anyone kills innocent people they will never be forgiven. Osama Bin Laden only went against the USA because the USA turned on him. They trained him and taught him everything he knows. The worm turned.

Not hate but pity and fear them for the violence which rules the religion! The violence goes back to a dispute over who had spiritual authority over the Muslim community after the death of the prophet Muhammad in what is called the “fitna” which translates as temptation or trial and caused all the discord within Muslim community. Shi’ite Muslims believe that authority was vested in his family; the Sunnis look to the sayings and actions of Muhammad as well as the Koran. The extreme sectarian violence has been brought about by Al-Qaeda Which while being exclusively Sunni deliberately set Shi’ites and Sunnis to kill each other in Iraq. Sadly more muslims die by muslim hands each month than were killed by the invading forces in the war! Hamas also kills far more muslims than the Israelies ever have! An average of over thirty five muslims a week were being killed by muslims but in the last few years it has frequently been over a hundred a week! Whether it is a Danish Cartoon, book of fiction , a snippet of film or some other excuse, Muslims hit the streets around the world rioting, looting, burning and uttering death threats! Nearly all the muslim countries are seeing muslims attack muslims destroying homes, businesses, infrastructer and targeting women and children particularly showing the extremists must surely be trying to turn muslims into primitives living in caves and mud huts so they can be controlled more easily!

Many people hate muslims because they buy into media and government propaganda, designed to keep people thinking the way the leaders want them to think. They don't know anything more than what they hear in the news, on TV or from other people who usually have the same skewed info.
While it is surprising that people still get taken in by this lame trick in this day and age - what is more surprising is how many people are not taken in by it. The internet has provided a way for the first time in history where people can speak to each other 1-on-1 and learn for themselves that muslims are just like everybody else. Just as you say, each group has it's extremist and the crazy folks that get reported on in the news that really don't accurately represent the group on the whole. Many people say "I saw a whole street full of people dancing in the streets over 9/11" - and I did too - but you are talking about 2 different scenes of about 100 people each. That's a very very small percentage of muslims. Most muslims, like most christians, jews, pagans and athiest are regular people just like you and me. We get up, we go to work, we send our children to school and hope they return safely.
We need to understand and embrace the concepts of unity and tolerance NOW before our leaders take us over the edge folks.
Peace!

Muslims are no more hated than Christians and Jews, but everybody dislikes terrorist and religious extremist regardless which religion they may claim affiliation with.
The prejudice you describe is no different than the same type of prejudice experienced by Jews and Christian.
It appears that religious persecution is part of the package for all.

People will always hate what they do not understand or what the media tells them. Unfortunately, ignorance has caused a lot of people to dislike Muslims. You should not let it bother you although it obviously does. As long as you like yourself, forget about the rest.

There are far more muslims who hate everyone than there are any other religions.
If you are a muslim than you know we don't hat eyou but we hate how you allow men in your religion to hate women to the point they are delegated to property under fundalistic islam.
Are we supposed ot love you after 911 when your own news media showed muslims in every country in the world dancing in the streets.? The muslim world showed it's true colors that day and you have a lot of clean up to make people trust you again.
Clean up your own back yard. Free your women, force your government to gurantee freedom of religion in every muslim country. Open your doors ot every religion open the dooor sof freedom to every muslim including women before they turn on you and distroy you.

I know that not all muslims are terrorists, but lets' face it, most terrorists are muslims. I know it's not fair, but there are a lot of stupid people in the world. It is unfortunate. The people who hate muslims are a lot like terrorists, too. Maybe they don't blow themselves up, but there are a lot of hate crimes against muslims that are totally unfounded. Ignorance breeds contempt. Try to surround yourself with positive people and lead by example with acceptance and compassion in your heart. Good Luck.

Simply because they're prejudiced. They are very insecure about themselves and feel the need to lash out at people who are different in order to make themselves feel better. In other words, they're bullies with no self-confidence.
Don't let them get you down; you're much better than they are! You'll go much further in life!
