They say that kindness is contagious. We have all heard about the person who has gone through the drive thru and paid for the person behind him or her. What nice thing have you done for a stranger that didn't require a lot of money or time? Do you believe that your act was contagious?

Hello. Good Question. I always contribute to our local toy drive during the holidays. That's become a tradition in my family.

One time I was in line at the grocery store and a little old man came up short on his money. It seemed to really upset him, almost to tears, as everything he had was needed items. I caught the checker's eye and flashed my cash at her and she just told the man not to worry about it. I payed his balance after he left.

Doing things for others certainly makes me feel good. I've always been fortunate to have someone there to help me when I needed it, so maybe an act of random kindness is contagious.

I sure would prefer that to the seemingly contagious evil deeds and lack of caring that permeates our society.

Food---
I buy food from the local Food Bank ($.18 a pound) and package it into boxes. Social service organizations give needy people my number, they call me, and I deliver food to them. Many offer to help me; some say when they get on their feet again they'll donate food etc.
I know first hand it is contagious. After my husband had a bad auto accident, my family received toys and a food basket at Christmas. I aways wanted to 'repay' the kindness, so now that I am financially able I do this every week.
He also needed a good bit of blood. When my health permits, I give blood.
I try to always at least give a smile--- and it is always contagious!

Just to let you know there are people out there who do spread kindness:
I have given food to hungry people, let weary mothers cut in line, made up for a kid short of cash in front of me. Have given clothes and goods to people who need them. I've helped to make blankets for disaster victims. I've given can goods to food shelters. Etc...
People have been kind to me in the past, and I always remember them and I think their kindness has prompted me to do what I can.

Walked a blind woman and her dog Zeus to the used book store (about 1/4 mile), and carried her books back to school for her. She reminded me of my grandmother.
