you can't make him love you over the night. you could become his friend, so he could trust you. if he is in love with your friend for years, you can't force him to fall in love with anybody! be his friend, make him to trust you! then he may fall in love with you. (of course you have to tell him your feelings). but do it only when you are sure that he is your friend! good luck...

get your friend to let him know that she isn't interested in him. just so that it will be easier for him to get over her. then you can make your move.
