Considering our needs etc, isit possible to supress emotional needs and erase them for a person? can women do this? just wondering as men are wired differently and i know they are emotionally detached at the best of times.

I think that you are talking about codependence. Many people especially women have problems with this because they are socialized from a very early age to look after others. Melody Beatty has a number of books on how to detach with love. Some think that if they don't look after others that means they are selfish when in fact the opposite is true. We do not allow others to grow as human by constantly meeting all of their needs. People need to take care of themselves to understand what they want and where they want to go with their lives. Carol Gilligan also theorized about the edict of care that women have and how they are hard wired to care far more then men do. Men are, say 90% of them, are only biologically attached with women by their very nature inbuilt. Whereas, women are mostly, 99%, are emotionally attached with their beloveds. Men are vagabond in nature, wanting not to root in any systems and values. But, a woman has to give birth to a child within the same place and the known people of secured society, like a plant drives its roots in to the earth, and not moving here and there. She needs emotional support, security, warm-understanding, caring and sharing of her feelings, more than any "physical comforts".
But, it is the very nature of men and women!
Fire is fire and water is water! Fire burns everything and the flames goes up - Water cools everything, nourishing, goes down!!
Fire, the man;
Water, the woman!
There can be no other explanations for these such natural phenomenon!
