Can anyone tell me the difference between the words "allot", "a lot" and "alot" and why they seem to be used interchangably??
Before you start slapping me with insults, please know that I do know the difference. I just don't understand what is so hard about these words.
I am looking for a lot of answers here..

OK, Allot is like when you allot someone something. As in you put something aside for someone like The company CEO has allotted workers extra time for lunch.
ALOT and A lot are BOTH the same but different spellings.
But alot can mean that there are alot of beans in the can.
And A Lot can also mean the people up the street just purchased a lot to build their new home on.
